SentrySafe Pistol Safe Quick Access Biometric Gun Safe Review

If you’re on the lookout for a gun safe to securely store a pistol, the SentrySafe Pistol Safe is the way to go. This is a strong gun safe which is great for both access in an emergency and for keeping your pistol away from children.

When you’re purchasing a gun safe one of the most important features is quick access. You certainly don’t want to be messing around finding a lost key for your gun safe, and the biometric scanner means you don’t have to worry.

I’ll discuss all the features of this great gun safe below.

Access

The SentrySafe gun safe offers 3 ways to access the safe – using the biometric scanner, entering the code on the buttons or with a key.

The code can be set behind the battery pack at the front. This is easy to do. The buttons have no feedback which is good for stealth, and there is a blue LED light for visibility.

Be sure not to go too fast as you can miss the keys – it will blink red 3 times until you can try again. An incorrect code entered 5 times will lock you out of the safe for 2 minutes, and both the keypad and fingerprint functions will be shut off for this time.

To use the fingerprint scanner you must wake it up first. You can do this either by pushing a button and then swiping your finger on the biometric scanner or tapping your finger on the scanner before scanning it. The safe accepts up to 4 fingerprints. The speed of the scanner is great and I haven’t had any issues.

There are also 2 override keys included.

Capacity

Officially there is 0.8 cubic feet of space inside the safe which is enough room to hold a standard pistol. The bottom, lids and sides are padded offering protection but taking up some space.

There isn’t a huge amount of storage space inside but it’s not overly cramped either. Smaller guns will obviously allow room for you to store more items inside.

You can see how much you can fit in the video below.

Specifications

  • Inside: 2.2″ x 9.7″ x 6.6″
  • Outside: 3.2″ x 12.0″ x 9.9″
  • Weight: 12 pounds

Cons

A con for me is that the biometric scanner needs to be activated before it can read your fingerprint. This doesn’t take long but sometimes I can forget to do it.

Another issue is with the keypad – if you go at it too fast, it can be unresponsive. You need to pace yourself and learn the best speed at which the gun safe works to avoid being locked out.

Unfortunately its also not fire rated.

The SentrySafe Pistol Safe really is an easy to use gun safe offering super quick access to your pistol when you need it.

With holes on the bottom, this is an easy safe to bolt down to the bottom of your nightstand. It will fit most pistols and will open up super quick. The included manual is easy to follow and there’s also a 1 year warranty.

It’s a great safe for keeping a pistol safely within reach.
